Obituary for Ronan Barsy

Ronan Barsy of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital after a battle with cancer on January 28, 2023, at the age of thirty-three. Ronan was born in Winnipeg, graduated high school from JH Bruns, and graduated with a B.A. from Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg.

Ronan was pre-deceased by his father Rocky Barsy, his paternal grandmother Ramona Barsy and his maternal grandmother Ivy Bergeson. Ronan will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his mother Faye Barsy, his brother Travis Barsy (Erin Barsy), numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and friends who were like family particularly Deborah Huff, Jenny Sych and Randy Haley.

Ronan worked full time as a Security Supervisor at Paladin Security in Winnipeg and part time at St. Matthews Anglican church at the time of his passing. Throughout his working life he worked on the house keeping staff at Norwood Hotel and janitorial staff at Canadian Mennonite University. Ronan like to create his own working experiences to supplement his life including given introductory guitar lessons and cleaning private residences.

Ronan had a passion for classical guitar participating in guitar ensembles and individual performances throughout High School. At CMU he was instrumental in helping to create a guitar quartet. Ronan also played many songs at Churchill Park United both on the guitar and accompanying music on an African Drum. He shared his love of the guitar and music after work at his worksite playing Christmas carols in the foyer. In 2006 Ronan won the silver medal for his grade one classical guitar exam with the Canadian National Conservatory of Music. Ronan’s guitar lessons with eager students further showcased how kind and patient he was. Ronan had a keen sense on how each student needed to learn.

Ronan also participated in cheer with Central Cheer for 2 years. His team mates recall fondly how encouraging he was, and how positive his outlook was in every interaction.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday February 3 at St. Vital Cemetery with Reverend Theo Robinson presiding. Celebration of life to follow at 1pm at the Victoria Inn 1808 Wellington Avenue. All are welcome.

Pallbearers are Dale Coulthard, Frank Galway, Flyn Magarrell, Mary Ingram, Stephen Friedenberg, Cameron Proulx and Kelvin Bergeson. Accoustical guitar performed by Randy Haley.

Family and friends would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness, compassion and care in times of stressful working situations and in particular the staff on seven West.
