Obituary for Antonio (Tony) Silvari

Peacefully on January 19,2023 at River East Personal Care Home , with family at his side, Antonio passed away at the age of 91 years. He will be deeply missed and remembered by his surviving children ; Louise (George), Diana (Pat) and Daniel (Tamara) grandchildren; Leanne (Tyson), Michelle, Trevor, Tyler (Pam), Kaitlin (KC), Adrianna and great grandchildren; Myah, Brady, Tate, Kaleb, Macey, Kolton and Briella. His brother Mario (Debbie) and in-laws Laurette Philippot, Henri Gauthier, Celine Gauthier and Nella Silvari along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Antonio was predeceased by his wife Anne, parents Antonio and Maria Silvari. Siblings Domenica, Ignazio, Domenico, Maria and Giacomo.

Antonio was born in Pola, Yugoslavia on June 26,1931. In 1951 his families legacy and journey crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Italy to settle in Canada. The family arrived in Halifax on May 4,1951 boarded the train and seven days later arrived to their sponsor’s sugar beet farm in Sperling Manitoba.

After fulfilling their contract the Silvari family moved to Winnipeg purchasing their first home. In 1953 Antonio along with a few of his brothers joined the Italian soccer team Ital-Inter where he played for several years. Antonio was embedded in the community attending Holy Rosary Church, joined the Furlano Club of Winnipeg and attended Italian picnics at Camp Morton.

On August 25, 1956 Antonio married the love of his life Anne Gauthier. They were married for 63 years until the time of her passing. Antonio will be fondly remembered for his unconditional love and devotion to his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were ”Blessings from Heaven.”

In 1983 lake life began at Arnold’s Co-op where he made numerous friends young and old. He could be seen riding his bike and later driving his golf cart around the co-op and stopping to socialize. He was known to all as “Uncle Tony” or “Nono”. He loved to spend quality time with family and friends fishing, playing slow pitch, volleyball, horseshoes, cards, bean bags, darts or just sitting around the bonfire enjoying the company and having a drink or two of his homemade wine out of his famous yogurt cup.

Memories were also made when he and his brothers travelled back to their home country of Italy.

Antonio was a demonstration of man who lived in the moment.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Li and ER nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the care they demonstrated throughout dad’s last days.
To River East Personal Care Home Serenity Cove nurses and healthcare staff thank you for welcoming dad a year ago and allowing him to be himself. To Kristy and Tara you continually demonstrated passion for the care you provide to the elders. To Naomi we are so grateful for the compassion and gentleness you demonstrated throughout dad’s last hours.
