Obituary for Elisabeth Erna Malburg (Boehm)

Elisabeth Erna (Boehm) Malburg died in Winnipeg on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Maples Personal Care Home, with her son George close by.

Elisabeth was born February 19, 1931 at the Rudolfinerhaus hospital in Vienna, Austria, daughter of Hans and Friedl Boehm. She was raised in Gloggnitz and Eisenerz, Austria.

After finishing her primary and secondary education, Elisabeth worked for a year as an au pair in New Castle, Pennsylvania; followed by another year of work in Bilbao (or San Sebastian), Spain.

On August 3, 1954, Elisabeth married Peter G. Malburg in Eisenerz, Austria, then followed him to Montreal, where Peter had a job after completing his academic years in Austria and Union College, NY.

Over the next several years, Peter’s job took him and Elisabeth to Switzerland, Germany, back to Montreal, and finally to Winnipeg.

They raised three children: George, Christian and Beatrice (Trixi) who now live in Vancouver; Vienna, Austria; and Stanz, Steiermark, Austria; respectively. Elisabeth and Peter also had seven grandchildren.

Elisabeth loved gardening, books, the outdoors (she downhill skied in Austria, then cross-country in Winnipeg), but most of all her many good friends.

Elisabeth is also survived by her loving brother Hans Guenther in Rhinebeck, New York, and his family.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no public service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross and/or flowers to staff at Maples Personal Care Home. We are very grateful for the loving care that she received there, just now and over the almost 9 years!
