Obituary for Gordon Kalian

It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Gordon Kalian, beloved husband, brother-in-law, and uncle, on December 20, 2022, at the age of 92.

Gordon was predeceased by his sister Gerry just a month earlier, and is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruby (nee Smorang), brother-in-law Gary Cutler, niece Colleen Cutler (Ravi), nephews Reid Cutler (Gwenda) and Garth Smorang (Carolyn), and great nieces and nephews, Andrea, Jeff, and Brett Smorang, Deanna and Leanne Cutler, and Sarah and Julia Balakrishnan.

Gordon lived his entire life in Winnipeg, graduating from St. John’s High School, and working for many years for AEI Communications, and then as Manger of Security at St. Vital Centre.

Up until just a few years ago Gordon was extremely active, volunteering as a Board member and President of the Lions Club and working to raise funds for Lions and the Salvation Army each year. He was also very active in the operation of Glendale Court, where he and Ruby have lived for 17 years. Gordon was a friend to everyone and was always willing to help out when asked. He also served as Santa’s helper at many family Christmas gatherings. Even the neighbourhood dogs looked forward to seeing Gordon, as he never set out on a walk without a pocket full of treats.

Gordon had most recently been a resident of the Lions Manor. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff and care givers for their compassion, care and support for both Gordon and Ruby throughout.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. To honour his wishes, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place, and Interment will take place at Libau MB this coming spring.
