Obituary for Kevin Glenn Wilson

Kevin Glenn Wilson
February 12, 1964 – January 4, 2023

Kevin Wilson, aged 58, of Winnipeg, sadly left us suddenly on January 4, 2023. He is survived by his daughters Samantha (Liam) and Jennifer. He was predeceased by his parents Glennis and Donald, and brother Michael.

He is also survived by his former spouse, Susan (Evan); ex-sisters-in-law Charlene and Emily; nieces and nephews Jesse, Melody, Hannah, Katiana and Andrei (Alex); numerous aunts and cousins; and many special friends and family members.

Kevin was born in Winnipeg on February 12, 1964, and grew up in the St. James area. As a child he and his brother Michael enjoyed many summers on the shores of Grand Beach. Kevin was very close to his parents and enjoyed spending time watching sports with them and playing crib. Over the years Kevin was well known for his charming personality and his smile.

Kevin grew up playing numerous sports including hockey and football. It was natural for him to develop into the superfan he was of both the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. He and his parents enjoyed season tickets with the Bombers for many years and you could hear his booming voice throughout the stadium “Go Blue!” or commenting on a call the official made that wasn’t in favour of his team. A favourite event was attending the first Grey Cup in Winnipeg, in 1991.

Kevin enjoyed many hobbies and loved to share his enthusiasm with others. He discovered his passion for cooking and gardening in his 20s and would spend countless hours caring for his tomato plants and herbs which would one day grace one of his incredible culinary creations. Enjoying a special soup, pasta or steak cooked or barbecued by Kevin was a treat.

He had a love of music which was further developed through his time working with the audio company, Bose Corporation. With a deep knowledge of his craft, he filled his home with the music he loved such as Pink Floyd, The Tragically Hip, Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Elton John and many others.

Kevin spent his working years as a successful account executive in the audio technologies industry and the medical technologies industry. He is well remembered by his natural abilities in forging positive relationships with others.

Kevin was very particular about growing the most beautiful grass possible, using his well-honed mixture of just the right amount of fertilizer, water, and seed. If you could walk on it in bare feet and it felt and looked like lush carpet, then it was perfect.

Kevin had a soft spot for cats since he was a boy. Many a lucky feline was loved by Kevin including Gris, Conan, Terminator, Tyson, Murphy and Kitty. He also enjoyed caring for tropical fish of all kinds and would spend hours watching them.

His greatest love was for his daughters, Samantha and Jennifer. He was so proud of his girls and filled his home with photos of them. He attended many of their significant events and insignificant ones, to cheer them on and show support. He showered them with praise and gifts as his way of saying how much he loved them. His girls were the biggest light in his life.

Special thanks to the amazing staff at Grace Hospital.

To honour Kevin’s love of cats, donations can be made in memory to Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 2727 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, R3J 0R2.
