Obituary for Stephen Foster Doyle

With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the passing of Steve Doyle, who left us peacefully late Sunday evening at Riverview Health Centre with his loving wife Lynn by his side. With the pain behind him he is now at peace.

Born April 1, 1952 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Steve spent most of his formative years in Ontario, graduating in 1970 from Banting Memorial High School in Alliston Ontario. Steve, an army brat, called many places home, including Lahr Germany while his father, Jim, fulfilled his duties with the Canadian Armed Forces. Steve liked to tell stories about his travels, especially the hi jinks he got into with his siblings and the ever-changing neighbourhood kids. After joining his father on a posting in Manitoba, Steve met his wife Lynn, and chose to stay in Winnipeg. They married in March 1974 soon to be joined by their three children Jeffery, Derrick and Cynthia.

In 1976, Steve’s position as Office Manager with Coca-Cola brought him and his burgeoning family to Saskatchewan coinciding with the birth of their first son Jeffery. Although his career with Coke ended in 1979 when the family returned to Winnipeg to have their second son Derrick, his love for Coca-Cola memorabilia never ended. Cindy arrived in 1982 after they settled in the family home in Niakwa Park.

After 38 years as a federal servant for the Government of Canada with CRA, Steve retired to spend more time with his grandchildren, play golf with friends, organize golf tournaments, and follow the Blue Jays, Jets, PGA tour and NFL. He was an active member of the St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church. A life-long athlete and sports fan, he spent many years pitching for the “A’s” in Winakwa’s CC slo-pitch league and participated for other senior Manitoba Men’s team.

As an avid volunteer and a father, Steve has left his mark on the lives of many young people through his time coaching sports teams for all three of his children and as a leader with Beavers and Boy Scouts. He was first in line to take off work and help with the sandbagging during the Flood of the Century, and in later years he was committed to working the soup kitchen at Siloam Mission and volunteering for the Grey Cup and Pan Am Games.

Steve is predeceased by his parents James and Georgette, sister Patricia, brother James Jr., brother-in-law Bob Stuermer and father-in-law Gordon Cross.

Steve is survived by his wife Lynn; mother-in-law Jean Cross, his children Jeffery (Anne-Marie), Derrick (Cheri) and Cynthia (Jeremy); grandchildren Keegan, Sierra, Haven, Merida, Everly, Tom and Jesse; sister–in-law Lori, nieces Kristin (Sam) and Courtney: and his siblings Madeleine (Dave), Robert (Donna), Daniel (Maryann), Thomas and Michael (Louise) and their children.
We would like to give special thanks to Drs. Paul and Visser for their care and assistance through this difficult time. As well as many thanks to the great number of people who have reached out offering kind words and support.
If you would like to honour Steve please consider a donation to the St. Bartholomew's Memorial Fund, 881 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg, R2J 1C2 or to another charity of your choosing in his name.
