Obituary for Joan Ann Phillips (Leinweber)

Joan Ann Phillips (Leinweber)
Our world lost a bright, shining light on the morning of Saturday March 10th 2018, when Joan Ann Phillips returned to her heavenly home and rejoined her beloved husband of 40 years, David Edward Phillips. While Joan resided in Winnipeg for the past 12 years, home for the majority of her life was in Southwestern Ontario, where she was born in Kitchener 88 years ago, and in London, where she lived for 50 years.

Joan entered the workforce as a bank teller with the Royal Bank of Canada, but all who knew her would say that her love of life on this earth was her family, whether that was her husband, her parents, her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren, or her extended family in the Anglican Church. Joan was at her very happiest when she was surrounded at play with “little ones” as she called them. It didn’t matter whether they were her immediate family or not, this was her true joy in life.

Joan and David had two sons, Norm and Don. Norm and his wife Joanne reside in Doylestown Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. Their son Scott, and his wife Christine, live with their daughter Olivia and son David in Cheverly MD. Norm and Joanne’s daughter Shannon, and her son Ryan, live in Fairfield CT. Don and his wife Nancy live in Winnipeg, and provided great support to Joan since she moved there in 2006. They have two sons. David and his wife Chantelle also live in Winnipeg, and have two sons, Caleb and Benjamin. Joan was predeceased by David and Chantelle’s daughter, Si'ipn Rose.  Don and Nancy’s other son Peter and his wife Meghann live in St. John’s NFLD, with their two sons, Nicholas and Henry.
There will be a service for Joan at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 755 Elm Street in Winnipeg, this coming Wednesday morning, March 14th, at 11:00 a.m. The officiant for this service will be The Reverend Rod Sprange. Joan’s final place of resting will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in London Ontario and there will be a service at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, 397 Springbank Drive, in London on Saturday April 14th at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside gathering for family members. The officiant for the service in London will be her son Don, who is the Anglican Bishop for the Diocese of Rupert’s Land.

Joan’s Christian faith was the foundation of her life, and she served as a Prayer Counsellor with 100 Huntley Street for many years. Memorial donations may be made to either St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Winnipeg, St. Michael and All Angel’s Church in London, or 100 Huntley Street in Burlington ON. A special thank you to the staff at Calvary Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg for the compassionate care and concern that they gave to Joan.
